Pet Disaster Kits – July 1, 2011

July already and hurricane season is upon us. It is not something that we like to think about but we all should have a Disaster Kit for ourselves as well as our pets. Here is a list of some of the things that your pets kits should include:

7 day food & water supply/bowls
Treats, can help in stressful situations
Collar with tags/microchip/leash
30 days of medication
copy of medical records
Carriers and/or Kennels
familiar toy, catnip, chews, blankets
first aid kit
pooper scooper, baggies
litter/litter box
muzzle if needed
brush and comb
can opener
wallet pet id card
pictures of you w/your pet for identification
Homeopathic stress remedies

This is a few of the things that you would need if you have to evacuate. Make your Emergency Kit Pet Specific to your pets and their needs.

Your kit should be ready, perhaps a 5 gallon bucket, where it would be just a matter of Grab and Go.

Also, a quick reminder that the 4th of July is especially stressful for pets. More pets are lost over the 4th. than any other time of the year. Leave your pets home, if you are going where there will be fireworks. They are much safer at home.
