Hope your summer is going well so far. The heat is more like August than June and there are several things I would like to remind you of to keep your pets safe during the summer months.1. Access fresh water at all times.

2. Access to shade if dog is left outside for any length of time.

3. Walks, early morning or late night when temperature is lower.

4. Give them a short haircut., brush on a regular basis.

5. Remember never leave your pet in a closed car in the summertime.

6. Do not put your pet in the back of a truck.

7. Be aware of deadly plants and fertilizers.

8. Avoid using cocoa mulch, see Newsletter for for details.

9. Asphalt gets really hot and can burn a dogs paw pads. Walk your dog in grass whenever possible to avoid this problem.

10. Fleas, ticks, flies and mosquitos are all a problem during the summer month. Be sure to use Frontline or Heartguard medications for prevention.

11. Be sure your pet are current on all their shots.

12. Never leave a dog with free access to a pool. Things can happen.

During the summer months and not just on the 4th of July, many areas have firework. Most pet are afraid of fireworks.

Here are a few suggestions.

  1. If you know there is going to be fireworks, leave your pet at home.
  2. If your pet is at home, leave on some music or the TV to distract them from the noise of the fireworks.
  3. If your pet is more secure leave them in their crate. This way they cannot hurt themselves or destroy anything in the house.

Hope you have a great month of July and enjoy your pets everyday.
